Residents' Surnames of Buk Village

Bachelor thesis is focused on topic of anthroponomastics, especially dealing with residents' surnames of Buk village (local part of city Jindřichův Hradec). Main theme is liguistic analysis of obtained from list of surnames from etymological aspect for which permanent residence currently is or have been registered historically. Thesis is prepared on the base of study of onomastic literature.
Metaphors in Partners' Calling

Diploma thesis Figurativeness of denominations in a partnership based on a questionnare survey deals with a discourse of figurative denominations in partnerhips. Firstly, the position of partnership denominations within the field of onomastics is defined and a general language characteristics of these denomations is presented. Further on, the main ideas from cognitive linguistics are presented, especially the conceptual metaphor theory which has been the basis for an analysis and interpretation of partnership denominations. These have been divided into several semantical groups in the context of which the partnership denominations are being analysed.

PhDr. Martina Šmejkalová, Ph.D. ABSTRACT The research project deals with children's nicknames from the linguistic and linguodidactic point of view. Nicknames are verbal means of realization of the communication act of addressing and a manifestation of a specific communicative strategies in the classroom. A research of such kind has not yet been carried out in the Czech Republic. We used a questionnaire as a research method. The main research was carried out in two phases and its main purpose was 1.) description and characteristics of 562 nicknames of 8th grade primary school pupils and of the same age group pupils attending "gymnaziums" (eight-year grammar schools) focusing on the motivation of the origin of the nicknames; and 2.) detailed characteristics of 45 selected nicknames focusing on the functioning (perception and experience) in school language communication, from the perspective of the productor (a group where the nickname originated and where it is used), the recipient (a bearer of the nickname) and independent evaluators. Metaphorical patterns in onomastics recognizable by pupils and students

This dissertation thesis deals with metaphorical patterns in a specific language material - names for partner (pet names) as recognizabled by pupils of age 14 to 16 and students of age 18 to 20. Names for partner, i. e. ways of mutual calling between a two people making a couple, were selected due to its strong metaphorical character. Their ambiguous affiliation with proper names, or common name enabled critical evaluation of structural and functional definition of proper names as well. Furthemore they enable to present a cognitive view on proper names especially based on emphasizing the conotative part of meaning and metaphorical nature of humans' thinking. The research was based on questionnaire divided into two parts and group and individual interviews with girls. The sufficient lexicological material gained due to the first part of questionnaire became a matter of metaphorical conceptualizations' analysis dealing with conceptualizations of partner (love). Thanks to the individual interviews the communication and pragmatic analysis of names for partner was performed. Second part of questionnaire and group interviews with girls enabled the detailed analysis of connotations and metaphorical perception of thirteen names intended for ladies.

The goal of this thesis is an analyzis the most common anthroponyms in the area of Dačice. The analysis and classification of the obtained materials are based on study of onomastic literature.

Family Names, inherited Names and Nicknames in the village Tajanov

The topic of this thesis is anthroponomastics of Tajanov a village in western Bohemia. The aim of thesis is to analyze the collected proper nouns. I analysed the surnames, the names after residence and the nicknames on the basis of specialised literature. I recieved the material for the analysis from the list of voters and from the almanac to the 700th anniversary of the establishment of the village. I also used the method of exploration and found out next important information by some conversations. All the surnames, the names after residence and the nicknames are divided in the research part of the work into categories according to various aspects. I summarised the statistical evaluation of the accumulated data.
Analysis of onomastics material in Jiratice

This diploma thesis extends the bachelor thesis research that analysed whether and what characteristic features appear in ordinary language of native speaker who come from Jiratice. The goal of this thesis is linguistic analysis of official, unofficial personal names, minorplace and local names in Jiratice or in its nearby vicinity. These names are collected from written sources and from interviews with witnesses. The collected material is organized into a dictionary that analyses primarily the motivation of each name. The complex of names is also classified according to various criteria. The aim of the diploma thesis is to contribute partially to the Czech onymic research.
